for trombone and live electronics
Duration: 5'30"
Instrumentation: Trombone and live electronics
Recorded by Tony Boorer from Psappha Ensemble.
5 May 2017, St Michael’s Ancoats, Manchester.
On the surface is for trombone and live electronics. It is inspired by ‘Still Water (the River Thames for example)’ by the visual artist Roni Horn, and it consists of fifteen photographs of the River Thames. Each image captures a small section of the surface of the water, where colour and texture of these surfaces vary dramatically. On the surface focuses on using the behaviour of water as a starting point, where the musical ideas overlap and interact, and the electronics expand the acoustic sound of the trombone.
